On Friday November 6th and Saturday NovembeEntitlementr 7th, I will be debuting new music accompanying an original piece by Amy Weaver in the dance performance Entitlement by Sapience Dance Collective.

It has been a wonderful opportunity collaborating with Amy, and once again writing new music for dance. Above is a preview of the piece, with three slices from the ~9.5 minute accompaniment cross-faded together.

After the performance’s debut, I’ll put up the full piece and article about its composition so that those who weren’t able to see it live can at least hear the aural element.

If you are in the Seattle area though, please come and see a wonderful evening/afternoon of new work! I guarantee it’ll be worth your while, as all the choreographers and dancers involved are amazingly talented individuals.

For more information about the show, check out the full poster here.

As I was recently informed by my friend and collaborator Otto Cate, the album that we worked on A Descent into the Darkness has been released on Amazon.com’s mp3 store!

Coming soon as well is an iTunes release, and the album has also made its debut on eMusic, Napster and Rhapsody. We’re certainly making the rounds! Exciting stuff.

    Iron Depths - Remix
    Theoretical Dungeon BGM

I had originally written this piece back a few years ago as a bit of an urge to create a moody theme along the same lines as something written by Motoi Sakuraba: master of the ridiculously epic guitar, organ and synth-driven dungeon music. However, I wanted to pull things back a bit and let there be some moments of ambiance.

In retrospect, the piece came out decently but with probably the most annoying rumbly ambient sounds and screechy distorted percussion. I revisisted it earlier this weekend to try and revive it from the perminent disassociation treatment. Layer by layer I stripped away the annoying elements until just the hammond organ remained. Then, more parts were carefully placed on top again in the spirit of the original concept.

If you’re curious as to how it sounded before, shield your ears and take an aural gander at this mp3.

    A Descent into the Darkness

    A Descent into the Darkness

Over the past several months, I’ve had the pleasure of contributing to several tracks in an upcoming release by Deprogrammed Studios. Along with the primary composer Otto Cate, I collaborated on both this track as well as an instrumental track Bidwell’s Ghost.

This song in particular is called Forecast and was an interesting collaborative effort. The whole tune began with the opening guitar line that was in an unfinished sketch by Otto titled Forecast. For whatever reason, I started riffing on that first line and created an ambience that seemed to invite some vocal lines. So, I began to write the lyrics and melodic line along with the groove and coda. After finishing my part and recording the vocal line, I sent it off to Otto who began his producing magic. There’s a lot of little subtle touches in the opening bits that really helped make it work. Then, the final explosive section is mostly all him. Very much bringing the style he maintains for the rest of the album, it swirls into a chaotic storm of audio until its conclusion.

Check it out! If you want to hear the rest of the album, it’ll be out on January 6th as a digital release from the FiXT online store.
